IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is an effective method for improving the appearance of the skin by treating uneven pigmentation, redness, sun damage, and broken blood vessels. The treatment stimulates the skin's own collagen production and results in fresher, more even skin.

What is IPL (Intense Pulsed Light)?

IPL laser uses a broad spectrum of light with many applications. This treatment can replace or work in conjunction with conventional laser treatments because it is gentler and allows the skin to heal faster. This is particularly beneficial for simpler problems such as redness and dark spots.

Which areas can be treated with IPL?

We treat sun damage, rosacea, broken blood vessels on the face, Breast, arms, and legs with IPL. We treat the entire face or only small areas, depending on your preference. IPL easily and safely removes broken blood vessels and pigment spots, while also helping to revitalize and rejuvenate the facial skin and other skin that is treated. (Photofacial).

IPL can be used to effectively treat:

  • Broken capillaries
  • Rosacea
  • Sun damage
  • Pigment spots
  • Redness in the face
  • General skin improvement
  • Pigment changes on arms and Breast
  • Couperose / telangiectasia

How is IPL laser treatment performed?

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) facial treatment treats pigmentation by directing controlled pulses of heat light into the upper layer of skin. The heat and light break up the pigment cells and melanin in the pigmented areas.

The heat and light also coagulate hemoglobin in small veins in the face, causing them to be destroyed and disappear. It is common to have both pigment spots and small veins on the face, often in the same area.

The treatment is carefully controlled to produce the correct pulse length and amount of energy to destroy pigment without damaging surrounding tissue. This treatment also rejuvenates the skin. It is a quick and easy treatment that does not interfere with your normal daily routine.

Who can undergo treatment?

Most people can be treated with IPL, except for pregnant women, those with skin infections in the area to be treated, or those taking medication for light sensitivity.

  • To be treated with IPL, you must not sunbathe for 2-4 weeks prior to treatment. You cannot be tanned and must not have used a solarium or self-tanning products prior to treatment.
  • Certain medications, anti-inflammatory drugs such as Albyl-E, Ibux, Voltaren, Cortisone, or other blood thinners must be avoided. Treatment with these must be discontinued 14 days prior to treatment. This only applies if broken blood vessels are being treated.
  • Paracetamol is fine.
  • You must stop taking all dietary supplements 1 week before treatment. Alcohol must not be consumed during the last 2 days before treatment.
  • If you do not follow these guidelines, you may experience a poorer outcome from the treatment of burst blood vessels.

After treatment

During the first few hours after treatment, you will feel slightly sunburnt. The treatment area may be slightly swollen for a couple of days. The pigment changes in the skin may become even darker, but this is temporary.

Within approximately one week, the pigment changes will be greatly reduced or completely gone from your face. You can use makeup as usual. On your body, it may take four weeks before you see the final result.
