There are more and more people in Norway who have breast implants and have had them for many years, and although today's implants can remain in place indefinitely as long as they do not cause any problems, we often recommend replacing old implants because today's implants have been developed to be soft and natural, and they do not pose as high a risk of rupture. In some rare cases, implants have been inserted in the past that have been recalled later. Today's implants have been developed using completely new technology, and you can see the difference between new and old implants during a consultation. Modern implants come in different types and can even be run over by a car (!) without rupturing. 

When should dentures be replaced?

There are various reasons why someone might want to replace or remove implants, either because they want larger or smaller Breast, or because they have grown older and simply want to have them removed. In some cases, it is also a matter of capsule formation, which can be uncomfortable, so that you want to remove the capsule and insert a new implant. It may also be that over time, the breast has changed shape and you want to have a breast lift and at the same time remove or replace the implants. 

In some rare cases, capsule formation may occur, which can be painful and uncomfortable, and may lead to a desire to either split the capsule and insert new implants or remove the prostheses.

Breast implants are designed to last a lifetime, but we recommend having them checked after 10 years, and after 20 years it may often be advisable to replace them for safety reasons.

Choice of prosthesis

We use implants from Motiva, Mentor, and Polytech. All implants are of the highest standard in the world.

Mentor and Polytech have microtextured implants with a good prosthesis warranty, while Motiva has nano texturing that behaves more like a Breast has softer and more mobile properties.

Polytech has the B-lite series for those who run a lot or, for other reasons, want prostheses that are as light as possible.

Prosthesis replacement combined with breast lift?

If you have breastfed children, experienced significant weight loss, or have genetically Breast , you may only need a breast lift over the implant or an implant replacement if you want a different volume or shape or more fullness in your breasts. You can replace implants and have your breasts filled out by, for example, going up a size, or you can have a breast lift over the implant and either replace it or leave it if it is relatively new. If you want to go down a size, the skin will often be looser and it will often be necessary to make an incision and perform a breast lift at the same time to achieve a firm Breast a nice shape.

Common questions and answers

How long do I have to wait before returning to work after surgery?

Those who have a sedentary job in an office or similar environment may only need to take a week off work. If you have a job that involves physical activity and heavy lifting, you should plan on taking two weeks off. Cosmetic surgery does not qualify for sick leave, so it may be a good idea to plan ahead to ensure you get as much rest as possible after the operation. Many people also plan this around their vacation time to find a solution that works for them. 

When can I exercise after surgery? 

You should rest for the first two weeks and avoid heavy lifting. After 4-6 weeks, you can start exercising gently.

Can complications arise after surgery?

Capsule formation

Capsular contracture is a condition in which the membrane that the body forms around the breast implant contracts. Capsular contracture can occur to varying degrees, from barely noticeable to the breast becoming hard and tender. Capsular contracture can be uncomfortable, but it is completely harmless. 

Infection 

Infection is a very rare complication. 

Reduced sensation 

Reduced sensation in the nipples or scar tissue may occur, but this usually returns to normal after about a year.

Blood accumulation/Hematoma 

Bleeding may occur immediately after surgery, but can also occur 2 days after surgery. Accumulations of other bodily fluids usually disappear on their own, but larger accumulations must be drained by a plastic surgeon.

Can you breastfeed or have a mammogram when you have breast implants? 

If you are considering having children in the near future, we recommend undergoing breast augmentation after breastfeeding, as you may find that your breasts sag a little more after breastfeeding. 

It is also possible to perform a mammogram with breast implants, but please inform the person performing the examination of this. This is because the examination will then be performed more carefully with less pressure when taking images, and more images will need to be taken. In some cases, you will also be offered a more detailed examination of your breasts using ultrasound or MRI.
